Beginning Fly Casting with Bob Jacklin

Location: Lounge

Cost: $40 – Friday Afternoon April 3rd 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Rods and Reels Available for Those with No Equipment

This Workshop will be Outdoors. Please Bring Warm Clothing and Rain Jacket

This workshop is for the beginner caster or as a review for the intermediate caster.  The goal of the class is to provide students with a solid foundation of the casting mechanics. The workshop will introduce casting fundamentals covering the pick-up lay down cast, the false cast, and the roll cast.

Bob moved to the Montana area in the mid-60’s and by 1970 was a full time guide and fly fishing instructor in West Yellowstone.  In 1974 Bob began his own outfitting and fishing business, Jacklin’s Fly Shop in West Yellowstone and this year celebrates his thirty-ninth consecutive year as a fly fishing guide and outfitter.  Truly a comprehensive fisherman, Bob has toured and lectured extensively on all aspects of our sport.  Bob is a certified fly casting instructor with the American Casting Association and a master certified fly casting instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers, and a member of the FFF fly casting board of governors.  Bob is also a member of the St. Croix rod company advisory team and the Ross Reel pro staff.  Additionally he was the principal instructor for nearly ten years with the landmark Fenwick Fly Fishing Schools.  Please join Bob and learn from the one of the most skillful fishermen to cast a fly. Improve Your Casting with Buck Goodrich

Location – Lounge

Cost: $40 – Friday Afternoon April 3rd 1:30pm – 4:30pm

Please Bring Your Own Rod and Reel.

This Workshop will be Outdoors. Please Bring Warm Clothing and Rain Jacket.

This class is designed for the intermediate fly caster who wants to master those casting techniques that improve casting in adverse conditions. This class will also introduce students to the more advanced techniques that allow the fly fisher to present his fly more effectively

Buck Goodrich is so well known as a fly fisher in eastern Idaho, that he is a legend. Buck has been fly fishing the rivers and lakes of eastern Idaho, southwest Montana and northern Wyoming for over 40 years. There is probably no one more knowledgeable than Buck about the southwest corner of Yellowstone Park where the famed waters of the Fall and Bechler Rivers flow. Buck has been involved with the Federation of Fly Fishers since near its inceptions in the mid 1960’s holding many administrative post and chairmanships of various conclaves. He has received the Order of Lapis Lazuli Award, the ultimate award for individual achievement to the sport of fly fishing that the Federation bestows. His involvement with Trout Unlimited goes back 40 years and includes achievement in fly fishing excellence and conservation. On top of all this he is unchallenged in his ability to both cast and teach the art of casting and is a certified casting instructor with the Federation of Fly Fishers. Please come and be with Buck to learn from one of the best on how to cast a fly. Rods and reels will be available for those with no equipment. This workshop will be outdoors. This workshop is for the beginner caster or as a review for the intermediate caster.  The goal of the class is to provide students with a good foundation of the casting mechanics. The workshop will introduce casting fundamentals covering the pick-up lay down cast, the false cast, the roll cast and mending.  John Rivera is a certified casting instructor with the International Federation of Fly Fishers and has taught casting workshops both in California and Idaho. He is well known for his ability to teach beginners and has a reputation for being a gracious and patient instructor. Please join John and his wife, Fabia, for a truly unique experience in learning to fly cast.

John Rivera grew up in the town of Gilroy California. He attended the University of California, Berkley where he met his wife, Fabia Fuenzalida who was born and raised in Santiago Chile. John earned his degree in anthropology but then went on to post graduate study in print technology. It was in this field that he spent the next 20 years earning a living. Most of his career was spent in central California in Sacramento and Emeryville. It was here that John took up fly fishing and began his lifelong passion of fly rod building. It was in California that John and Fabia started their fly rod building business, The Fly Rod Company (www.theflyrodcompany.com), before moving to Idaho Falls. John is a highly accomplished rod builder, but his true love is the construction of extremely high quality bamboo rods. John is a certified casting instructor with the International Federation of Fly Fishers and has taught casting workshops both in California and Idaho. Fabia is an accomplished fly fisher in her own right. She earned her BA degree from UC Berkley in languages, linguistics and art history and a Master of Education from Harvard University in Cambridge MA. Fabia is multilingual speaking English, Spanish and French. Rods and reels will be available for those with no equipment. This workshop will be outdoors. Please wear appropriate clothing.

 

Spey Casting with Lee Davison

Location – Lounge

Cost: $40 – Saturday Afternoon April 4th 1:00pm – 4:00pm

Please bring your own Spey Rod and Reel. Spey Rods and Reels will be Available for those with no Equipment. This Workshop will be Outdoors. Please Wear Appropriate Clothing to Include Warm Clothing, Rain Jacket, Waders and Wader Boots.

If you would like to expand your fly fishing experience into the world of Spey casting, this workshop is your entry ticket. This workshop will provide you with the proper starting point to launch your new two handed casting career.  Lee will help you understand the mechanics behind the unique Spey cast and show you how to use it to expand your presentation to new lengths in tough casting positions. Please come and sign-up for Lee’s workshop and learn or improve your Spey casting from one of the most accomplished in the Spey casting world.

Lee is the designer and owner of Ballistic Flylines; founder of Snake River Outfitters, LLC; Snowbee USA dealer; an international Spey casting competitor (Spey-O-Rama Senior Champion 2015, 2017); and past President of the Fly Fishers International (FFI) Western Rocky Mountain Council. Also an FFI Certified Master Casting Instructor and FFI Certified Two-Hand Casting Instructor, Lee travels throughout North America giving professional fly fishing presentations and casting instruction. Lee is also licensed Idaho Fishing Guide with over 30 years of experience on the North and South Forks of the Snake River. Lee combines both a calming patience and an infectious enthusiasm for introducing fly fishing. He teaches casting techniques that build confidence and skill in his angling students. He’s been hooked on fishing ever since his Dad and Grandpa first took him, at age 5, on a quest for blue gills in an old wooden row boat on an Illinois strip mine lake. Lee has fished the waters from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, but home water for him is the beautiful Snake River and its blue ribbon trout fishing. This workshop will be outdoors. Bring waders and wading boot and appropriate clothing. Please bring your spey rod if you have one.
